This is a pair of ca. 1850-1860 Connecticut portrait paintings with lighted fixtures. These paintings are oil on canvas, however some time in the late 1800's the canvases were cut from their frames and waxed onto board. Because they have been mounted on board for over a hundred or so years, cracks in the paint are visible from the flexing board. These cracks can be taken to an artist and be pressed and repaired- the damage is not immediatly visible until it is more closley examined. They measure 22"x27", and 26"x31" (in the frames)
